National Botanical Gardens (Part 1)

Lindsey and I took a trip into the District today and decided to check out the orchid show at the National Botanical Gardens, cameras in hand. I ended up getting some pretty good shots despite the rare shafts of good light. Here’s the first batch:
New lens plus awesome dinner

So, this weekend I invested in a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens and it came yesterday so of course I spent some time playing with it. It’s a pretty awesome lens for the money. No, it’s not an L-series lens but I’m just not making that kind of money so this is the next best thing. [...]
Grungy photo day

I took some photos today on my walk home from the metro and I decided to capture the grungy feeling of the walk – dirty snow banks still lingering around, cloudy day, train tracks, and a power plant billowing smoke, etc.. I also got really grungy with the editing which was fun.
Today we got a blizzard, a snownado, a snurricane.

Seriously, we got another 10 inches or so today and according to the National Weather Service, we had “blizzard conditions” and were told that going outside could be fatal. I braved the elements for a brief photo or two. This photo simply does not do the storm justice but you can see the trees moving [...]

Lindsey and I hit up the National Archives yesterday and I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of the founding documents. Keep in mind that there was no flash photography allowed so I was shooting wide open which accounts for the complete lack of depth of field in these shots.

Vietnam War Memorial
